Welcome to the blog for the ‘Engagement Through Sound’ project. This project is being developed for the ‘VACC7030 Critically Engaged: Creative Practices in Context’ course, led by Michael Leung at Hong Kong Baptist University. My name is Edward Sanderson, and I am a PhD student with the Academy of Visual Arts at HKBU.

This project aims to investigate the potential of sound as a form of critical engagement. To that end I will be working with a group of Hong Kong-based artists to study their practices in the context of these engagements. I hope to be able to develop new works with these artists that build on the specific concerns of such engagement in each of the artists’ environments. Over the next few weeks I will be posting information about the artists and their work, as well as conversations with them to find out their thoughts on this subject. I hope that this stage of the project will conclude with a performance (or series of performances) to develop these lines of thought. Radio may be involved…

I hope you will enjoy meeting the artists and seeing how the process unfolds!
